BEIRUT (IRNA) – Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani said here on Friday that Arab and Muslim states should continue their efforts to resolve the Gaza crisis.

“Though a resolution has been issued by the UN Security Council, Arab and Muslim states should not bring their efforts in that connection to a close,” Larijani told Lebanese President Michel Suleiman.
He briefed the Lebanese president on formation of Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA) troika delegation, comprising Iran, Syria and Indonesia, and on its activities to guarantee restoration of Palestinians’ legitimate rights and end injustice in their case.
He said that in that line, the troika speakers have toured regional states, especially Syria and Lebanon.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Larijani said, “We and the troika delegation, formed to defend rights of the Palestinian nation, will continue efforts in that connection. The stances of the Lebanese president are close to us and we are happy that Lebanon has such a wise president.”
He hoped that the Lebanese people will attain their rights too.
Suleiman for his part told reporters that he was thankful of efforts the troika has taken in connection with Gaza and supports the UN Security Council resolution to that end.
He said the resolution condemns aggression and emphasizes the aggressor’s pullout from the region, as, based on the UNSC document, Gaza people have defended themselves against aggression and occupation.
He said Lebanon once against supports holding Arab summit to find ways of ending the suffering of the Gazans.
Beware poisonous prescriptions for resolving Gaza crisis
Larijani on Thursday dismissed some “artificial plans” offered by certain regional states to solve the Gaza problem, saying that they not only fail to honor the Palestinian nation’s real needs but also are a “poisonous prescription.”
“We try to ensure Palestinian people achieving their rights, but unfortunately observe that the artificial plans, which are set forth in the region and supported by certain European states for settlement of Gaza problem, are not only defective in terms of taking real needs of the Palestinian nation into consideration but are also a poisonous prescription suggested in a nice looking form,” Larijani told his Lebanese counterpart Nabih Berri on the first day of his visit to Lebanon after the tour of Syria.
He said, “Under such conditions, parliaments of regional states and other countries should widen scope of their activities to survey Gaza crisis and find ways of ridding Gazans from Zionists’ crimes.”
He proposed sending relevant letters to the UN Chief and European Union officials – the proposal was welcomed by Berri.
Berri, noting that similar letters should also be sent to the Latin American and the Mediterranean littoral state leaders, condemned the U.S. Congress “shameful” support for Israel’s ground invasion on Gaza.
He signed a letter, signed by Iranian and Indonesian speakers for submission to the UN Chief and the European Parliament president for settlement of Gaza crisis, and urged immediate stop of the Zionist regime’s attacks.
He said that he leaves judgment on Israel’s invasion on children, women and the elderly on the world public opinion.
After the meeting, Larijani in a press conference reminded the media of their grave duty of reflecting realities.
‘As a troika, we are looking for reasonable solutions to end the conflict in Gaza,’ he said.
Israeli was continuing its air strikes on the besieged Gaza Strip for almost three straight weeks.
The international community is calling on Egypt to open its border to the Gazans who have been under Israeli blockade.
Larijani also held talks in Damascus on Wednesday with Islamic Jihad Secretary General Ramadan Abdullah Shallah on Gaza crisis.
Condemning the Zionists’ massive attacks on Gaza that resulted in killing an injuring a large number of innocent people, Larijani said that the issue of Palestine and dispatch of humanitarian supplies to the City of Gaza is among the Islamic Republic of Iran’s priorities.
For his part, Shallah urged the Islamic and Arab countries to make greater efforts to settle the ongoing Gaza crisis.
The two sides also discussed various ways to lift the Gaza siege and assisting the residents of the city.
